Latvian and Buffalo Sabres' coach, Ted Nolan, who coached brilliantly during the Olympics, including setting up a planned play vs. Canada involving one Latvian player exiting the ice on to the bench on the defensive side of the ice, and having a forward, Lauris Darzins jump on the ice through the other bench-door, toward center ice, sneaking behind the Canadian defense to give the Latvians a breakaway goal.
