First quick test footage with the new picture style by Giovanni Speranza. Quick test footage from inside in available light without proper lighting. Shot just two workmates from the MeeGo team which two have promised to be actors on our planned short films.
EOS 5D mark II + 70-200 handheld. Aperture at 2.8, no rig attached. High ISO due to poor interior lighting. The lighting inside was very low in kelvin, I think I had to use the minimum kelvin setting on manual kelvin white balance.
The picture style is available from cineplus.
Unlike the Technicolor profile, this allegedly produces usable results without grading on post. This video is not graded or image altered otherwise. Just raw output from FCPX.
My observation is that this would have ended up worse with some other picture style. Despite of the poor light and reddish light inside, this ended up looking about okay which was a surprise.
I need to try the picture style next outside and also with proper light inside.
With some experimenting, it is looking quite promising. I might actually like it, unlike all the other picture styles.
You have to use the Canon EOS Utility to load custom image styles on the camera. The utility can be found from one of the CDs that is supplied along with the camera. There is a Mac and Windows version of it.
