Deep in the mountains of Northwest Pennsylvania, active CPL's show the heritage of this former B&O mainline. We start out at DuBois Yard in a gorgeous sunrise on 1/04/12 as RISI does some switching by the CPL at the North end of the yard. This was supposed to be the chase train for the day, meeting up with SIRI in Johnsonburg, however, after finding out PSDB1 was leaving Punxsutawney about 15 miles southwest of DuBois with a solid orange lashup, we decided to abandon the non-BP-painted ugly yellow leader on RISI. PSDB1 proved to be an interesting train to chase.

Motive Power:

RISI:
B&P SD40-2 3323
B&P SD45-2 454
B&P SD45-2 459
B&P SD40-3 3333

PSDB1:
B&P SD45-2 452
B&P SD45-2 451
B&P SD40-3 3064

We first catch PSDB1 at Big Run, then Stump Creek, and finally coming into DuBois Yard at the CPL. Later that evening after chasing SIRI south, we catch up with the PSDB1 working the tipple at Penfield.

Sorry for the lack of subtitles, I was testing out the trial of Sony Vegas Pro 11, and it is much harder to add decent subtitles than the current version I use.

  • What's the info on PSDB1? I do believe I caught its return section one afternoon whilst heading to Altoona... Coming into Pennfield I saw the lights on the 153 crossing blinking, so the girlfriend and I chased it all the way to DuBois, and I caught it on video at the mall. I noticed it's BPRR from ditch lights to FRED, what is the purpose of this train?

  • @Nickboy90

It usually runs to the interchange in Driftwood and back, and sometimes serves the mine at Penfield.

  • Nice. I definitely think you made the right decision on which train to chase, that B&P orange sure looks nice, especially on an overcast day. Looking forward to watching the SIRI chase in the next video.

Just out of curiosity, exactly what is different between the versions of Vegas when it comes to creating lower thirds over the video content? I've had my experiences with a few types of editing applications when it's come to captions, though I have yet to touch Vegas.

Well, it's funny. Version 9, which is the full version I have had and always used, is the most user friendly and is just a lot better in terms on adding simple things (like text captions) to your videos. However, the program just flat out sucks for rendering, and crashes while rendering 1080p files, while the never versions are the opposite, they'll render a bit faster and won't crash, but I hate the stupid caption tool in the newer versions. But it's pretty much all good.

  • Nice video. What's a CPL?

Color Position Light. These particular style of signals were used by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, and are becoming a rarity as railroads replace them for modern signals.

  • what is that clicking chirping sound??

  • Very nice!!!

  • @o00o00ozy Well, at least they didn't go all "iMovie Pro" on you like they did for the newest version of Final Cut, if they went that route then if anything adding text should be easier. Are they making you keyframe the text in manually or something? That's what I did in After Effects on that CR tribute of sorts video I put out a while back, it took forever to add in each title but they came out a bit cooler than the more standard ones I make in Premiere. (which I'm sticking to)

  • Thanks for the info.
