THROUGHOUT HISTORY, PIGS WERE PERFECT FOR MEAT AS THEY CONVERTED GARBAGE AND WASTE FOOD INTO CHEAP MEAT. CATTLE AND SHEEP TURNED THAT WHICH WE COULD NOT EAT - GRASS AND CELLULOSE INTO FLESH AND MILK. CHICKENS FROM SMALL HOLDINGS EATING WORMS AND MAGGOTS GAVE US EGGS. THEN IN 2001 THE UK GOVERNMENT BANNED PIGSWILL FOLLOWED SWIFTLY BY THE EU AND MUCH OF THE DEVELOPED WORLD. THIS WAS THE NAIL IN THE COFFIN OF AN ACCELERATED THOUGHTLESS PROCESS WHEREBY MOST ANIMALS ARE FARMED IN COOPED UP PENS AND NEED TO BE FED IMPORTED FOOD. AFTER ALL, EVEN THOUGH SUPERMARKETS, SCHOOLS AND HOSPITALS DUMP THOUSANDS OF TONNES OF FOOD, THIS IS CONSIDERED UNACCEPTABLE AS ANIMAL FOOD FOR "HEALTH REASONS", SO WE PASS ON THE PROBLEM TO POOR COUNTRIES. LET'S CELEBRATE OUR HUGE WASTE OF FOOD, INDUSTRIAL AGRICULTURE AND HIGH STANDARDS OF LIVING. SCREW THE FORESTS, PEOPLE AND ANIMALS IN SOME POOR COUNTRY; OUR LAWS AND WAYS OF LIFE ARE SACROSANCT AND TO USE A BUSHISM "NON NEGOTIABLE". Killing Fields: the battle to feed factory farms

Few people realise that a hidden chain of destruction stretches from factory farms in Europe to the forests of South America -- where huge soy plantations are wiping out wildlife and making climate change worse. Soy, grown to feed chickens, cows and pigs in Europe, now covers over 11 million hectares in South America -- an area equivalent to all the arable farmland in Germany -- and demand is growing fast.

To make way for soy plantations, thousands of people are being forced from their land and with it, losing their ability to grow their own food. Indigenous people are being evicted and forests are being cleared.

Many of the soybeans are genetically modified and massively increase the use of pesticides -- resulting in the poisoning of rural communities, water sources and the natural environment.

Meanwhile in Europe small scale farming -- that is good for people and the environment -- is losing out to big business.

This ground breaking film investigates the impacts of growing soy in South America to feed factory farms in Europe. This campaign gives those people unwittingly caught up in this damaging chain hope that they can break out of it.

"The doctor arrived and he looked at Silvino and said to me, your son is completely poisoned with dangerous toxic chemicals. I was crying, desperately crying. Silvino could no longer walk and then was completely paralysed, at 3 o'clock Silvino died. He couldn't hold on any longer."

Petrona Villasboa, mother of Silvino Talavera, Paragua

  • @H204Real thanks for being awake and aware.

  • the solution is to go vegan. there is an abundance of foods that keep humans healthy and animals free.

  • south america is exposed to pesticides that are actually banned in north america.

the climate change comments are theories...climate change has not been proven.

carbon is essential to life...have no fear of carbon...fear AGENDA 21 and I.C.L.E.I.

    these are man-made.

  • this is not a left : right issue. this is not a hippy : capitalist issue.

this is about humanity's character and sensibilities at the core level.

as a conservative, "right winger", it is obvious to me that much of nature is being reduced to uselessness and

    contamination.

  • sadly u miss the precious points in this film. ultimately, this affects all of us, including you.

by the way, hate to break it to you but modern is not better.

humane connections to the land and its wildlife means.... more for tomorrow.

  • Now that is quiet a dumb thing to do. Go veg.

  • This is terrible.
