@NewWaveTH thanks well i watched a vid that said they both fired a type of 30-6 , 30 ot 6, yea 06 well thanks for your input and its still a good weapon for cqb

It does not fire the 30-06 cartridge.
M1/M2 carbine fired a new cartridge specifically designed
for the weapon. The cartridge (.30 caliber carbine) is approximately
the size of a .357 magnum cartridge (which by the way had not been
invented yet). M2 carbine was used extensively during the Korean
war 1950-1953.

@pelle1243 they first started appearing in early 1945 (april ish). conversion kits to allow the m1 to fire auto also came around that time.
