Toei Animation New Film based in the classic Manga and Anime (that was adapted by TMS in the 70s )



It was going to be Release : 2009
But For unkown reasons Movie is going to be in theaters in 2012.
Riyoko Ikeda has talk with toei about the proyect, she said it when she was visting Italy.

First Anime adaptation was produced by TMS Entertainment, in 1979. Original characters design by Shingo Araki, with assistant Michi Himeno. Then Akio Sugino joined to that team and make the faces more mature. After the Anime ends, Michi Himeno has been in charge of any Versailles no Bara piece of art that TMS needs: artbooks, books, stamps, all kind of merchandising.
It was directed by Tadao Nagahama for the first 20 episodes and then the legendary Osamu Dezaki take this anime and turned into a classic piece of Anime.

@riffen1 I'll be very blunt with you. This will probably not be released. It's been 5 years since it was first announced. The animation should have been completed by the end of 2008. Three years later and we still don't have anything. A soundtrack score was composed and everything. Still no movie. 2012 will be the 40th anniversary of this manga and this movie is "planned" for release next year. But based on all the delays, I doubt this will be released at all. Don't get your hopes up :(

I love the idea of a movie of this awesome series, but how can there be a movie? What will it be about? Everything ended and stuff in the anime series, so are they going to fill in blanks, reduce the whole series into a movie, or what?
