We redesigned the parking system at Lied Recreation due to numerous user complaints. The Rec Center already has a gate system which is not in use, so we used that as the basis for our re-design. Our final design incorporated the gate with a redesigned indoor interface for payment, as well as an exit gate, but streamlined the actual user interaction. Upon completion of a low fidelity prototype model, we did user testing and found a 0% error rate, a significant improvement from the old system, based on user interviews. The system also allows the University to much more effectively police the lot, and would increase parking revenue substantially. However, due to a ceiling effect, further testing is required.
