With more and more out of work (or underemployed) in the US coupled with the rising cost of housing a lot of people are a hair away from being homeless themselves.

Crime is increasing and the jails are overflowing.

Desperate times indeed.

I was homeless and refused shelter by the Salvation Army for not being a Christian. I do appreciate the work they do in (selectively) giving away some of the money that people give them, but there are much better avenues for you to help the poor. If you really want to help the poor then join a revolutionary movement to eliminate capitalism.

He wants to increase pell grants but, colleges around the nation are cutting classes. What about increasing funding for universities,and stop using the money to bomb toodlers and women in oil rich nations.

I commend the Salvation Army for taking care of these people whom the government doesn't give a damn about. Instead of wasting billions of taxpayer dollars in senseless wars and in bailing out private companies like AIG, the US government should take a cue from the Salvation Army and provide help to the people who need it the most.
