Germany should be viewed on much different levels than it has currently been. They have been unfairly punished for wars crimes that we committed as allies. If Churchill had not been such a blinkered,war mongering buffoon,someone might have noticed that A) Our Royal family are German B)We conquered and enslaved half the world and C) Stalin and communist Russia were never to be trusted,ever.Churchill fucked up big time by constantly shouting "I want a war!" and his unjustified hatred of Germany.If Britain had allied with Germany the Jews could have been deported to the USA,and Russia invaded avoiding a 50 year cold war that nearly killed everyone.

They ought to have hangerd Speer. He richly deserved it, despite his ghastly personal charm. He only escaped hanging by giving the allies access to V-weapon records from his secret safe in Munich. In consequence, only the Soviets asked for the death penalty. If you have sympathy to spare, please reserve it for the many slave workers he was responsible for killing.

These are great modernist buildings, so much better than the 60s and 70s. Much more elegant and peaceful, and yet we are compelled to point out columns and rigidity as tokens of Nazism. A shame that they destroyed earlier styled buildings. That itself is terrible and scary, but the designs of the new buildings themselves , these 'nazi' buildings are nice in many aspects, if a bit austere. Berlin sounds an exciting city before 1933, even though the depression and the hard times in Wiemer republic

Hughes was in a car accident which nearly killed him, as I understand : his ensuing disability probably accounts for a lot of the weight... Btw if interested further in Speer I recomment Heinrich Breloer's excellent docudrama "Speer & Hitler - The Devil's Architect". It's riveting and intelligent, and in Australia ( the place the "enlish [sic] fat bloke" comes from) it may be available from SBS
