Stowaway in the Sky - Voyage en Ballon 1962

An old aeronaut wagers he can fly across France in a balloon. He does so, along with an unexpected passenger, his stowaway grandson. Tou Tou, a mechanic, tracks the balloon's flight from the ground in an ancient touring car. This film was the feature length debut of Albert Lamorisse, the director of The Red Balloon and White Mane.

A beautiful film with an outstanding music score. Originally filmed in wide screen Dyaliscope, the French form of CinemaScope, it looked spectacular on the big screen. However, this video dates from the 1980's, when all wide screen films had to be transferred to video in pan and scan as a matter of course, cutting off 50% of the picture area in the process. It badly needs remastering for DVD in its original full width CinemaScope format.

Thank you so much for this! I've been searching for this film for YEARS, but couldn't remember the title, and IMDB, search engines and posting to "what was that film?" sites didn't turn up anything. It was one of my favorite boyhood movies. By the way, according to IMDB, the title is "Stowaway IN the Sky" (although I now seem to remember it by the alternate title "Voyage in a Balloon", "Le Voyage en Ballon"; the French title). It might be worth correcting your title for people searching by that.
