November 2010: The Christie pipe organ is being installed right now, should be working in a few months, keep an eye on curzon.org.uk for news and @curzoncinema on twitter.

The organist is Colin Godfrey, he plays regularly on Monday evenings.

I believe there was talk about installing a Christie pipe organ here but that seems to have gone quiet.

Indeed right - this is a 3 manual Compton "melotone-de-luxe" - one of only 4 or 5 made I believe.
I am mystified as to who the organist is?????
I was a volunteer organist at the Curzon in 2004 before moving up to Manchester.
Although I LOVE Compton electrones this one was dreadful. So much had been messed about on it - amplifiers, voicing - you name it. Im sure a thorough restoration would bring it back to the instrument it was.

Does anyone know who the organist is, and when the video was recorded? Is the person playing a regular organist at the Curzon?
I believe this particular organ is a Compton Melotone de Luxe and is one of two that is playable in the whole of the UK. The tones are produced using a type of electrostatic generation, the signals of which are then filtered, amplified and the final sound is output using a pair of large loudspeaker enclosures.
Hi there, I took this video last year in early October. I was backpacking around Europe and staying with a friend in Clevedon. I initially went to the Curzon to fill in time but was pleasantly surprised by the history of the place and the organist playing it before the show. Im glad you found it interesting.
Cheers!
