My HP Nc6120 started having this issue a few weeks ago.

What happens is that sometimes, even when no pressure is applied to it whatsover, it will just stop. And by stop I mean that it will just freeze everything, and if you life up the lower right corner, it will continue along as usual. This problem can also be induced by tapping the lower right corner. I am aware that this is where the HDD is located, but I do not believe that it is the issue as I tried it in another nc6120 and it worked fine.

Also, although I appear to be monstrously hammering at the laptop in the video, I assure you that it was only a tap, the microphone made it seem much louder than it actually was.

  • Tengo el mismo problema como jhonkey. (Same problem as Jhonkey)

He says "that his system keeps on working if you put pressure on the left, down. This is where the PCMI-cards (or whatever you name it) are located.

If I put pressure on the same spot during a "WinXP boot freeze" the system continues and the green HDD-led flickers again. There must be something wrong with the motherboard. I could not find it, because dismantling this lady ain't easy ;( (Compac NX6110 with Win XP Pro and new HDD)

  • Yes, this is the same solution I encountered to the problem. Unfortunately it appears after research I have conducted with several IT technicians that this is a physical problem with the motherboard, involving a small piece of it being cracked due to a design flaw. Unfortunately for me the warranty ran out a long time ago for this laptop, and replacing the motherboard would cost much more than a new laptop with better specifications.

  • el mio se bloquea, lo presiono en la parte inferior izquierda y sigue trabajando. (el del video le dan golpes en la parte superior derecha).

que queda en ese lado del portatil??

  • I'm sorry, I don't understand Spanish, and translating your comment yielded poor results. If you could type it again in English I would be happy to help you in any way I can.

  • Hard Drive going out

  • Way to read the description. I said that I tried the HDD in another laptop of the same model and it worked fine.
