County jails provide comprehensive health care to inmates. Sometimes they pay for it, and other times they don't. At a time when many are concerned about public health care and its costs to taxpayers, some officials in mid-Missouri say we should limit the care given to suspected and convicted criminals. Others say the system works. I talked to Saline County Sherriff, Wally George, about what he does to save residents in his county money. Then I spoke to Boone County Commissioner, Ken Pearson, and Jail Administrator, Warren Brewer, about why the largest county in mid-Missouri lets inmates off the hook for thousands of dollars in medical care. Is the cost too high? You decide.
