The Lost Libraries of Timbuktu 1 of 5 - BBC Travel Documentary, recorded 17.04.2010

Aminatta Forna tells the story of legendary Timbuktu and its long hidden legacy of hundreds of thousands of ancient manuscripts. With its university founded around the same time as Oxford, Timbuktu is proof that the reading and writing of books have long been as important to Africans as to Europeans.

  • What I wanna know is,where all the white people saying we didn't have no history, and Timbuktu had no books.they always somewhere running their mouth, but they run from good proof.

  • @Moedoe11 > Hey, hey hey...this is not a prduction from dark Africa ... Some white people took the trouble to produce this and post it to the public... (I admit that's a very few viewers... given the poor viewing rate, but I am doing my best...)

  • @RuniTravel > As a matter of fact the one time i tried to report using a documentary that was a combined African European effort (something on Nigeria with a local presenter ...) I got a warning from nigerian TV that I was infringing on copyright issues ... so take it as you will...

  • @RuniTravel > Oh, I almost forgot ... I also documented on the Appartheid Movemment in South Africa ("Have you Heard from Johannesburgh"... but this time it was Southern Americans (USA) who blocked my upload )... One way or another you cannot extrapolate from a few to depict a whole ... Thats basics Mathematics...
