From their farewell concert at the BBC in London July 7 1968."The carnival is over"Not until 1993 did they get together again with Judith as a lead singer.
They then more or less performed concerts together until 2004.But the years are moving on for all of us and they have retired for good now as a group after having their last tour summer of 2004.Their last ever concert was in Hong Kong October 8th 2004.Keith Potger, Judith Durham and Athol Guy still perform in Australia as solo artists.
But as they have said themselves:"Never say never"they are to tour in May 2011 with Andre Rieu in Australia.

The lyrics for "The Carnival is over" was written by Tom Springfield and the melody is based on a old Russian folk song.
Judith had to put up a real fight to get
this song recorded as the boys rather would
record another song called "Hummingbird"
instead. But she got her will and it was
recorded first time in 1965.At it's peak this single record was selling 90,000 copies a day in the UK.

  • Good Lord, I am sitting alone with serious tears in my eyes wondering if there will ever be another group like the Seekers or Peter Paul and Mary? Or am I just getting too old? The 60s produced REAL music. Not like the over-rated crap we are fed with in the 00s!!

  • What a fantastic song! I have been listening to this song for the past 40 years and never get tired of it. Judith has a beautiful voice. This song brings back so many happy memories especially of friends who are no longer with us.

  • NICE

  • And she was right to made this record. One of the best songs ever performed.

  • My precious father died last year, and as a child in the 1970's I spent many happy hours listening to the seekers. We played two seekers songs at dad's funeral last year - The water is wide and a world of our own! BEAUTIFUL

  • lol

  • The Seekers - they seeked - and found fantastic songs for us to hear!

  • my fav lady singer what a voice

  • It's an ancient Russian folk song of XIX century. We Russians used to sing it all together on parties - it's a sort of drinking song. So funny to hear the Seekers' naive lyrics as it too far from the original one (look it in Wikipedia's article Stenka Razin. To listen to ORIGINAL RUSSIAN FOLK SONG just search in YouTube: Song of Stenka Razin. Russian folk song

  • @DoowlufLienNow your reply to my comment brought further tears to my eyes. You obviously have good taste in REAL music. Lang lebe ( long live) the music of the great 60s!!
