  • Wow! These guys really do this song justice. Found them by accident looking for Darryl Singletary singing this.

I bet he's lookin' down with tears in his eyes at how well the boys do 'his' signature song....beautifully done. Lou Reed certainly stepped up and filled some prettty big shoes.

  • Seldom Scene has been a band since 1971! The band members have changed over the years and their former lead singer, John Duffey, died in 1996. The last original member, playing in this video and all videos, is the banjo player, Ben Eldridge.

They have recorded many albums. I just saw them live last month. They are fabulous and played this song. It brought to tears to our eyes.

I love the man on mandolin, Lou Reid, who is my favorite singer.

  • wow...i have never saw you guys before but i will give you a thumbs up...you have any cds out?

  • Hell yeh! You cant beat Seldom Scene, way to go Fred Ill seeyou guys soon

  • This recording should demonstrate to the world the beautiful voice that Fred has, and, just as so many recordings of John Duffey have, that there are some truly beautiful high male voices out there, and bluegrass is a good genre to hear them out.

  • BTW, Fred Travers is one heckuva high singer, with an outstanding range. As a classically trained countertenor (i.e. male alto), I study Fred because he sings so well in a higher range that most men don't do so well in. Fred is perhaps better known for singing the low third vocal part ("baritone" in bluegrass parlance) in the Scene, underneath Duffey's high tenor and Dud's lead, but he could definitely hang with Duffey's high notes...

  • And it's beautiful music...which is, as near as I can reckon, the way Duffey would've wanted it.
