Katie Couric on Sarah Palin
"CBS Evening News" 6:43pm
Interview

TOPIC: Abortion and separation of church and state

TRANSCRIPT:
KATIE COURIC: Why, in your view, is Roe v. Wade a bad decision?

SARAH PALIN: I think it should be states issue. Not federal government mandating yes or no on such an important issue. Im, in that sense a federalist, where I believe that states should have more say in the laws of their lands and individual areas. Now, foundationally also though, its no seceret that Im pro-life, that I believe that a culture of life is, is very important for this country and personally thats what I would like to see further embraced by, by America.

COURIC: Do you think theres an inherent right to privacy in the consitution?

PALIN: I do. I do.

COURIC: Thats the cornerstone of Roe. v Wade.

PALIN: I do and I believe that individual states can best handle what the people within the different constituencies within the fifty states would like to see their will ushered in in an issue like that.

COURIC: What other supreme court decisions do you disagree with?

PALIN: Hmm. Well, lets see, theres, of course, in the great history of America there have been rulings that theres never going to be absolute consensus by every American. And there are those issues again, like Roe v. Wade where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. Going through the history of America, there would be others.

COURIC: Can you think of any?

PALIN: Well, I would think of, of, any again that could best be dealt with on a more local leve. Maybe I would take issue with. But you know, as a mayor and as a governor and even as a vice president . . . I wouldnt be in a position of changing those things but in supporting the law of the land as it lays today.

COURIC: Thomas Jefferson wrote about building a wall of separation between church and state. Why do you think thats so important?

PALIN: . . . so that government did not mandate a religion on the people . . . people have the ability and the desire to express their own religious views. Be it on a very personal level, which is where I choose to express my faith, or in a more public forum . . .

  • Sarah Palin is a MORON! I couldn't understand a word she said regarding the abortion issue.

  • I can't believe McCain made such a terrible mistake of choosing this beautiy queen, how did she become Governor? perhaps she ran on upholding anti-abortion stand vaguely by putting lipstick on a pig. I am not sure Karl Rove was part of this selection, he can do better than this...Yak, Palin is simply a disgrace to her Generation.

  • Katie Couric at 2:35, "WTF?"

  • Let those who have abortions pay for it- no government hand outs to clinics No Government mandates of anything is the best idea. The US govt was organized to prepare America for war to protect American Rights . No Other Reason! The USA's Government is of the people ( Religious and Non-Religious), By the people, and for those same said people. We don't need our Govt to protect us from spending our own money, nor do we need to be giving Govt our children's inheritance (no death tax at All, etc.

  • 2/2 I want to see you talk back the way Clair Huxtable did, and get slapped across the face consistent with [4:34] of the Qu’ran. I also want Bill’s friends to come over and play some Poker, and you disagree with one of Bill’s friends, and Bill will say, “He’s right, his word is worth twice yours, woman!” consistent with [4.11]. That Bill Cosby would be such a card! Enlightenment could not be funnier.

  • Katie Couric trumped the stupidity of any Palin gaffe with her Muslim Cosby show idea

    1/2

Katie, only if you played the Muslim wife version of Clair Huxtable. I want to see you wear a burka during the entire series, because that’s what respectful muslim women do. I want to see lots of scenes where you don’t want sex, and your “Bill Cosby” plows his fields essentially raping you consistent with [2. 223] of the Qu’ran. Damn that’s just slap-stick comedy right there!

  • Palin doesn't know any other. Haha!

  • I only had one Man-Date, after that, I said "NO!"

  • crapbag725 ???????????????????????

  • The more I hear her speak, the smarter I feel. Sarah Palin is truly a moron & has no place in government.

  • Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

  • "I believe a culture of life is very important" then why don't you speak out against all the thousands of innocent ACTUALLY HUMAN civilians being killed up in Iraq? Or how about all the innocent live animals you hunt and kill on a regular basis?!?!? Huh, Mrs. Palin? Oh yeah, that's right, because the only "life" you care about are unborn fetuses that can't live without the mother's support prior to 24 weeks, if you take it out before that, it'll die, dumb bitch.
