A violin you carry in a case, a fiddle you carry in a potato sack.
Obviously.

Actually.......... Fiddle does not have to be "light hearted and makes you want to dance" There are many different styles of fiddle from all over the world. One very good example of this would be one of my favorite fiddle solos that can be found at the end of Clint Black's song "State of Mind" The song doesnt really make you want to "dance" and is a slow piece, but it still is fiddle music.

Note to self: clean room so you can dance in it.

Gee I didn't know it was called Celtic violin Fest.... Oh wait, they're playing a FIDDLE. People just don't know the difference these days.............

@ThatGirlInTheFadora Hey, I'd give ya credit.... 100% copyright.... I just thought it was awesome, as here in Nova Scotia the fiddlers only play Scotish stuff....

@rjaymatthews NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOO...OKAY
correction. If the tune of the instrument is light hearted and makes you want to dance, it's called a fiddle. Same instrument, different style of music. Best way to remember the difference is this:
A violin sings, a fiddle dances.
