United Nations, New York, 17 June 2009 - The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon has launched a high-level Energy and Climate Change Advisory Group.
The Group brings together leaders, experts and energy practitioners from around the world. They will collaborate on key issues relating to climate change leading up to the international conference to establish a new agreement in Copenhagen in December.
2009 is a crucial year in the international effort to address climate change, culminating in the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, 7-18 December, 2009.
In 2007, parties agreed to shape an ambitious and effective international response to climate change, to be agreed at Copenhagen.
Mr Kandeh Yumkella, Director-General of UNIDO and UN Energy Chairman spoke to the press at the Spokesperson noon briefing.
