I am attempting to do a round doilie. I have done and ripped it out so many times, I think thread getting to wear out! I can't seem to read a pattern so am just making a circle with different stitches, but I couldn't understand how to increase the circle to get to lay flat. Now I got it. Thanks so very much!
so am i right? if you want to increase your circle all you have to do is the exact same thing over and over again, and then to create depth you do single crochet?
I just posted a video tutorial on a hat with a brim that will show one way to increase. You can increase to much or not enough. It depends on what you are doing. Increasing is a way of shaping or making something lay flat.

What you can do is use the beginning tail on your circle, weave it through the beginning stitches and pull it shut. Knot and secure the tail well.
You can also start your circle with the magic circle which give you a nice, tight closure.
