It's an illness after you take it enough for your brain to mold to an addiction. The process of being addicted affects your entire brain function.

Its not so much about the addiction that a person can't break away from it's the emotional suffering they are going through. She needed real love to take away her pain and sorrow no matter where these demons came from.. For some people drugs and alcohol are they only form of escape.Who are we to judge. Tragic really but this was a gifted and very talented singer who should be remembered as such.
