No it wasn't. It was written in 1964, when Lou was 22. The Velvets started the following year.

Wow, strangeparty, can you be any more condescending? It is those same 50K+ masses who made Warhol famous who made VU famous. They were ground-breakers, opening up the eyes of people who had no choice but to accept the pap that was all you could find at the time. Just because the Internet lives and now EVERYONE can be exposed to ANYTHING at ANY TIME doesn't make it a bad thing, and doesn't make you a prophet. The variety of music, art, etc. that is thriving now is because of ALL of us!

It's funny how many people like the VU, now that it's fashionable, among the masses. I'm sure the 50K+ commenters on this video would have rejected them at the time, like most people did.

(we can't forget the ones like David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Ian Curtis or the recent Beck, reportedly fans of these genious band). It is undeniable, though, that today, the Warhol style and all the Factory movement is turning fashion, but it's our role to keep it on the same way, underground, and rejected by all, 'cause that the way things are and were made to be. Most of the people aren't mentally ready for a band like this, but we just have to go on, and forget them.

it's impossible not to ask how such a great band, on the same level of greats like The Beatles, Dylan, Rolling Stones and some like those, is not recognized in the same way. But I think that's the point of The Velvet Underground, an underground band, apart of everything and everyone, independent, that grew up in one of the most artistic environments ever, and wich progressed through the years in this same environment

There are no doubts that The Velvet Underground are one of the most underrated bands of all time,

I don't understand why you would say that. The Velvets are widely considered one of the most important bands of all time.
