A giant explosion on the Sun was captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory on November 16th, 2012. It sent a coronal mass ejection into Space but not in Earth's direction.

    beautiful.  I don't suppose there is a further zoomed out view. It would be nice to be able to see the whole thing, and not have it be cut off by the frame.

    To estimate the speed of recording you can compare visible part with total circumference of the Sun (wikipedia) and check how big burst velocity you get and compare it with light speed (top limit). Than you can scale the time of recording. Usually it is couple of minutes. Search for: sun flare.
