Here is some video of me demonstrating switch casting on both grass and water. The technique is the same for both though the initial lift on the grass is more subtle. The rod is a Loop Opti 9132 rigged with a compact skagit and 14' T14 sink tip. The switch cast is the basis of all speycasts. All speycasts start with a lift and then move into a sweep creating a D loop travelling 180 degrees from the intended target. Throughout the sweep the spey rod tip rises upward keeping the line tight and sustaining the load within the rod. Power in the forward stroke is applied progressively driving the rod tip forward to a high crisp stop. The cast initiates from the ground up with weight transfer between the feet and the turning of the hips and shoulders providing the power into the backcast.
