As maybe you know, drx managed to get a beta version of Sonic 2; probably it's the one that has been used in the Nick Arcade show, but it's not the point of this video.

The point is that in this beta you can find this interesting bug.
Go near a set of spikes or a spring, "push" it, and then go to the other direction. Sonic will keep his pushing animation.

I asked around, and it seems that this happens also in Sonic 1 (which was expectable, since Sonic 2 has been built over Sonic 1) and in Sonic CD.
Well, probably it's a known bug, but still funny to see.

Enjoy.

  • wtf? this is the music for the 5th stage in sonic1 O.o

  • Yes, the earliest beta versions of Sonic 2 were based on Sonic 1. There is also a playable Green Hill Zone in this prototype rom.

  • @nineko I love Star Light zone music!

Are you saying that this music is in the Sonic 2 game?

  • @Ffiti2 No, this music isn't in the final version of Sonic 2. In this video I am using a beta version, retrieved by drx, which still contains elements from Sonic 1. You can look on the Sonic Retro Wiki to find out more :)

  • Ha ha!Funny.

  • The fuck cares?

  • Push Dance! wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • LOL

  • This bug actually is in Sonic 1 as well. :P

  • @nineko It is my understanding that each Sonic game is built over the last. Thus Sonic 2 is merely a reworked version of the Sonic 1 engine, and Sonic 3 is a rework of the Sonic 2 engine. This is most evident when you look at the stage select in Sonic 3 (release version, mind you), you see that it's nearly identical to the Sonic 2 stage select, even down to the little stage icons in the corner.

  • Yeah, this is a leftover bug from Sonic 1. I remember doing this a lot in Sonic 1, and this vid demonstrates how early of a build this beta is that the bug is still present.

  • how the f*** does he do that!
