This one of the most emotive pieces of modern film music ever scored. It never fails to bring a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat. A beautiful score for a beautiful film.

What mastery and insipration, once again, from Ennio Morricone! I viewed this music in a different light when I learned that the priest at the root of the true story, from which the movie is derived, played the Marcello concerto to the Indians in that one scene after he reaches the top of the falls. That, in fact added to the wonder of this music, even though I am a fan of the original Marcello concerto. Forza Ennio! Best ever movie De Niro ever played in!

Simply one of the best and most masterly of film scores so far composed. Wholly appropriate to the film, the combination of the three themes in counterpoint in this conclusion emotionally stunning and musically exciting: the music stands strongly on its own as well. A truly great film composer.
