Old School Drums And Bass Jam

I'm learnin' drums since 2 months (playing in a neo-soul/contemporary rnb band), thought it would be fun to play some breakbeats with and oldschool vibe. Then as I listened to the result, I thought "hmmm... what about addin' some bass on top of that."

That's why the drum video is chopped and the bass video isn't. Nothing was planned so most of the time I'm waitin for the first beats to drop before playing the bass.

I'm sure you guys can find some classic grooves in there... among the clams of course ! Have mercy ! ;-)

Crappy 22x14 bass drum I got from a friend for 40 bucks (big thanks Ben !) then resprayed it to match the ludwig, with an even crappier clear front head (really got to change this), no reso head, stuffed with pillows

Cheap chacha bell

Vic Firth Harvey Mason sticks... and that's about it. Don't have my own crash and ride yet so I couldn't play some p-funk ! Maybe later !

Most drummers tend to focus on chops instead of culture and when they try to play such beats, which aren't that hard on a technical level, they sound fake: too narrow, not enough or too much laid back, not getting the right sound...

Tim's obviously been growin up with this music so within a few months of practice, he sounds as if he's been playing those beats for years.
