READ THIS LONG DESCRIPTION!!!!! (IT'S WORTH READING):
19 years ago today, May 16th, we lost an extraordinary legend, an American icon, and a dear friend. The man who gave us Kermit the Frog, Big Bird, Ernie & Bert, Cookie Monster, and other whimsical characters that we'll always remember; The man who enchanted millions into television and film with his worlds of fantasy and imagination; A man who, among other words, could solely be described as a genius. With such an impact he made on our world and the tremendous legacy he left us, it's pretty hard to imagine a world without Jim Henson.

This tribute was made way back in August (there's a long story why I didn't get this on YouTube by his 72nd birthday on September 24th), and it took me about a week to finish it. I tried to get every aspect of his career on this tribute through existing videos on YouTube at the time (You will see some clips of several videos that were taken down some time ago, most notably the Fraggle Rock videos posted by regulator867, as was the users who posted those videos either closed their accounts or were suspended).

When I made it, it originally featured the song "Daydream" by the Lovin' Spoonful. But since this whole WMG/YouTube raid happened back in December, I slightly re-worked the video and instead used "Follow Me" from Fraggle Rock. If you want to see the original version of my tribute featuring the song Daydream, you can see it here: http://www.livevideo.com/video/E5082282488447B0AB4BFBE11F67D14D/may-16th-a-tr...

So to the lovers, the dreamers, and of course, YOU, here's my salute to my idol, Jim Henson. Enjoy =)

  • I was born 3 months after his death. Sad. A man who was a lover, a dreamer, and one of us. We will miss him.

  • I couldn't have said it better myself. I was born nearly a year and a half after Henson's utimely death =(

I'm willing to bet that most of us, if not all of us, wish we all could've had the chance meet him.

  • What were those Sesame Street clips at the beginning (the ones that had Big Bird Cookie Monster, and Oscar).

  • The Ernie and Bert clip is from "The Rhyming Game," (my fav E&B sketch) posted by hugic2112; The Big Bird and Cookie Monster clips come from "Bo Knows," which I got from tvcollector2 and you can now see it on T-Bird's channel; and The Oscar clip is from "The Trash is Right," posted by sawing14s. Hope that helps =)

  • Awesome job. Jim Henson FTW.

It really sucks that he died so young. He's one of those people I would love to meet (he died 4 years before I was born though)

  • Yeah. It would have been awesome to meet him, to talk with him, and even puppeteer with. In fact, I always imagined I was a part of his original team of puppeteers (Frank, Jerry, Richard, Dave, Steve, Kevin, and Carroll). He actually died over a year before I was born. =(

  • Jim died just before my 26th birthday, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I grew up with Kermit and the gang, they were a strong touchstone for me as we moved around the world. My own son was just catching on to the wonder of the Muppets when Jim was taken from us. Wherever he may be, I hope he knows how much people still admire and mourn for him. Thanks for speaking for the rest of us, Jon, with this lovely tribute, nicely done.

  • @Jbrangwynne53 I believe Jim Henson was a SAINT of a man

  • In k-1 I went to school in Napa, CA. One of our teachers and her husband had a puppet troupe. I will never forget the story of when they were invited to France to work with Jim Henson. they brought their young son. On the first day he saw the Kermit muppet in a plastic bag on the floor - confused why he was not talking. Jim saw this, came running over, shook Kermit awake and proceeded to bring him to life to reassure the young boy that Kermit was fine and everything was ok.

    that's who he was.

  • Nice job buddy. Great tribute!
