Ilene Kristen Rips James E. Reilly a New One - May 9, 1990

Ilene Kristen objects to JERk's decision to have Delia cheat on Roger (now played by Mark Hudson) with an orangutan, and carry its baby to term. After Reilly received hate mail from RH viewers over his total disrespect of the show's history, he decided to give into their wishes and draw new story ideas from past events. In true Reilly fashion, he decided to draw from previous eras of the show when the writing was at a low point.

JERk addresses Ilene by her full given name, Ilene Kristen Schatz.

Randall Edwards was the third actress to play Delia, from June 1979 until the fall of 1982, when Kristen returned. In 1981, Edwards' Delia was involved in a bizarre storyline in which she was kidnapped by a gorilla. It was RH's attempt to cash in on the action/adventure storylines that had become enormously popular on General Hospital.

Veterans Nancy Addison Altman, Earl Hindman and Ron Hale were no longer with the show by this time. NAA was fired because of Reilly's embroiling her in a modern day Communist conspiracy. (She ended up swapping places with Nicole Orth-Pallavicini on All My Children, replacing her as Marissa Rampal, while NOP moved into the Jill Ryan role.) Reilly claims that he axed Hindman and Hale, but both of the latter left because they were disgraced with Reilly's direction for the show.

"Opal" is Opal Shannon Ryan, Lizzie & John Reid's daughter, born in October 1989. She was played from birth by twin girls known collectively as The Farmer Twins.

Elsie Mae Crumholtz was the true identity of Sharon Wyatt's General Hospital character, Tiffany Hill. Wyatt left GH in February 1990 to begin appearing as Elsie Mae on RH. Elsie Mae was in the witness protection program after her life was threatened by a mobster while out on a reporting assignment. She arrived in Riverside and immediately gained allies in Silvio Conti and his crime family, a rival to the outfit that wanted her dead. Elsie Mae attempted to strike up an affair with Silvio, but after he drifted romantically toward Maeve, she fell for Roger Coleridge and broke up his second marriage to Delia.

Bernard Barrow was locked out of ABC Television Center on May 1, 1990, after having a very oublic spat with JERk over he and McTavish's character assassination of Johnny Ryan. When Barrow went to ABC to stage a protest to get Reilly fired, he fired Barrow from the show, and killed off Johnny in revenge..literally.
