Yes that's common sense to take every measure to ensure the safety of your home and belongings. But if you report the crime, at least there is a chance of the person being caught and possibly not re-offending. By not reporting the crime and simply making sure your insurence checks out, you leave that person out there to offend against you or someone else again.

If you want the police to catch "real criminals" you need to be willing to report "real crimes"

And in the park there are five men with brown hair and blue coats, how are the police going to know which one to arrest? By asking them their names. What happens if dickhead refuses to give his name? If they ask you your name, and you refuse to give it, there is a damn high chance that you are hiding something. Eirgo you deserve to be arrested. If you are innocent, then give your name so you can show that you are in the clear. If you are innocent and decide to be a pain in the ass and not give your name for the sake of not giving it, then you are immature and pathetic, and in my opinion, deserve to have your time wasted.

@TZ421 The last time I got burgled I phoned the insurance company first to check my cover was in place. What are the police going to do? Recently my car was vandalised and the insurance co said it made no difference to them if I reported it to the police or not.

Most crime is of no interest to the Met. Londoners need to look after themselves. Get proper door and window locks on your property and rent a garage for your car.

I don't know what the laws are in the UK but in the USA an individual does not have to provide any information to the police unless they are being arrested and charged with a crime. It is not a crime in and of itself to refuse to give your name (or any other personal info).

They rarely will arrest you for it because of the insane amount of paperwork following the arrest. It's easier to try to convince people to comply. Unless they're certain you are guilty. Most of us a smart enough to tell the difference between a guilty criminal, and an argumentitive litle time waster like the guy in the video or yourself.

Question: If you will "never trust police" who will you call when your house gets robbed or your girlfriend gets raped? Ghostbusters?
