the fun little scene vii at the end of Act III (Arden edition) where the Dauphin boasts about his horse as he impatiently waits for daybreak with Orleans and the Constable of France.
Plus, the Chorus opens Act IV.
Keith Drinkel ... Lewis, the Dauphin
Julian Glover ... The French Constable
John Saunders ... Duke of Orleans
Carl Forgione ... Rambures
Alec McCowen ... Chorus
Directed by David Giles
Frenchmen rightly do praise their horses over the English, but Rambures praises the English Mastiff dog. The English had famously poor horses in their early history, but these mastiffs even the Romans found very
impressive and superior (and took back to Rome to breed)....unfortunately, this production of "Henry V" suffers some cutting of the original text, including
the French talk and jibes about the English mastiffs and their diet in this scene.
Wow they cut the fantastic "have their heads crushed like rotten apples" line??

You compare the trifling boasts of the Dolphin with the measured majesty of Henry and you see why Hal's journey is complete.

Thanks for putting this extract up ....I'd started a website for the late Carl Forgione a few years back so this will add to it.
