  • @cjh661 Arrogance & corruption helped do in one of the most highly qualified men to hold the Presidency. A two-term VP, US Senator (from voter-rich CA), Congressman, lawyer & WWII vet, Nixon was instrumental in opening relations with Communist China, initiating "detente" with Soviets & expanded domestic environmental protections. Yet he was consumed with hate, arrogance, & determination to do in his "enemies." Bad presidents that abuse their power should be defeated. 2012 = another '72?

  • @redletter2008 its very hard to feel sorry for a man like nixon. he was an anti-semite and a liar. your right on about him squandering political clout in the '72 election.

  • What a fantastic president.

  • The 1968 election was very close & Humphrey could easily have won. How painful it would have been for Nixon to lose a second close presidential election (he's the only President of my lifetime to have run, and lost, before eventually winning). As far as Nixon "bringing Americans together," well he failed - just as George W. Bush & Barack Obama failed to unite Americans after proclaiming they'd do so during their campaigns. It's not easy & Nixon squandered unbelievable political clout from '72.
