BOSTON --Paul Pierce scored a game-high 24 points while Kevin Garnett and Brandon Bass each had double-doubles to lead the Celtics to their fourth straight win, a 89-70 victory over the Nets Wednesday night at TD Garden. Garnett scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Bass had 15 points and 13 rebound for the Celtics, who moved over .500 for the first time this season at 4-3.
Playing without Ray Allen, who was out with the flu, the Celtics struggled badly in their search for a scoring option beyond Pierce. The Celtics suffered through a miserable second quarter, making just five of their 15 shots from the floor. Boston was outscored, 18-16, in the period and trailed the lowly Nets 35-34.
But Pierce consecutive threes to spark a 10-0 run midway through the third quarter to give Boston its first double-digit lead of the night, 55-44. Moments later, Avery Bradley, giving Rajon Rondo a break, hit a 3-pointer and then forced a turnover to get the crowd energized. Rondo finished with 12 assists and eight points.
Pierce finished the third quarter with 14 points as the Celtics outscored New Jersey, 29-12, to take a 63-47 lead into the final period. With the help of Garnett and Bass - off the bench - the Celtics dominated the glass, 45-34.
The Celtics wrap up their three-game homestand on Friday with a game against David West and the Indiana Pacers.
