  • I bring along a hanger and 2 wooden pegs. Out from the hakama, pegged on the hanger and walked with one hand high so that my hakama didn't sweep the floor. hahaha.... I have no patience when it comes to fold clothes. But I love this technique, the fastest. One day, maybe one day when i got the time.

  • Thank you, this helped me :)

  • To me this method is the neatest and shortest way of folding it.

  • Daily descipline excercise........

  • Yes he would have worn one with ueshiba. He was an early student or his and in the early days everyone wore one even the lowest grades from what ive read. Im wouldnt say it holds you back as such. I mean the greatest aikidoka we have seen have worn them even tomiki at some point. I just mean it hides things. When on occations ive joined traditional etc classes the sensai has had to lift the hakama to show the footwork. If its not there it just makes it that bit easier.

  • Ya, he was a judo player at heart..though when practicing w Ueshiba you bet he wore a hakama. it seems in the US only schools that are off shoots of Karl Geis wear Hakama. It is a Pain in the ass, no doubt, but in 25 yrs of practice i've worn it every class after shodan. This stuff about it holding you back, well...not to sure about that.. but it certainly can be a pain ...

  • Well to be fair Tomiki didnt wear one himself. I know very few that do in the tomiki system. I admit they look nice but apart from that they have nothing going for them. Im glad my sensai dont wear one. As he always says to us they cover up important footwork if you cant see everything you will miss important things. Your learning will be held back. And if i wear one he cant see my footwork so well and if my footwork needs correction thats not good.

  • OK..perhaps not so easy the first few times. I also started Aikido practicing Tomiki Ryu and the Yudansha indeed wore Hakama. So sad many Tomiki schools have discarded it..But anyways..

  • Simple really? I have a hakama that was given to me and i now know why. Never in my life have come across such a pain in the arse. Ive looked at countless clips on how to fold it and tie it and still havent got anywhere. Im so glad i took tomiki aikido where we dont wear the silly things. It puzzles me that the japanese who strive for perfection in everything they do would come up with such a rediculas thing. And have the people filming all these instruction clips never heard of a light?

  • this is great. love it and favorited. 5 stars
