Semi-poor shooting with my Glock 29. Goes to show how easy it is to be over confident and miss targets that one normally can hit in his sleep. Shooting a handgun well requires serious focus on every shot!

  • HI HICKOK, I GOT A G29 SF FOR CHRISTMAS & I TOOK IT APART FOR CLEANING AND NOTICED THAT IT HAD A STIFF RECOIL SPRING LIKE MY GEN 4 MODEL 22. DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT? BY THE WAY , HUGE FAN OF YOUR VIDEOS.

  • @hunter112261 , Thanks. The 10mm Glocks have always had a pretty stiff spring, I suppose. That's a hot round.

  • @jak3f One way to look it would be to examine a freeze frame of high speed footage at the moment the bullet fully exits the muzzle, comparing two different loads, examining the relative angle of the bore between them.

The bore doesn't have to tilt much to create a noticeable difference in point of impact, just as adjusting your sights (if you have adjustable sights) in tiny increments results in pronounced differences in POI.

But, yes, the rest of the recoil comes after the bullet leaves.

  • @jak3f

Read just a bit from experienced handgunners, and you will find that more recoil generously equals a higher point of impact with a given gun and cartridge, something that can be even more pronounced with a bullet moving more slowly down the bore than another, contrary to what you would expect.

The bore is already tilting up from the moment the bullet begins to leave the case, and continues to tilt up until the blast forces reach maximum.

Look up "dwell time" if you still doubt

  • @PinkOld I may be wrong here but I am pretty sure the bullet is long gone before the recoil has anything to do with affecting its accuracy. Especially the bullet 'exiting at a slightly higher angle.'

  • @mds29 re:tumbling. And maintenance. If you allow the barrel to become severely leaded, it can cause the barrel to essentially become a smoothbore.

  • @2323Proverbs. I have a Glock 26 that I'm looking to trade for a 29... It has treated me quite well.

  • The reason your Glock 29 was shooting a bit higher than you expected was because of the extra recoil.

I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, but for those who don't, the more recoil from a given handgun, the higher the shots will land because the barrel rocks back higher, causing the bullet to exit at a slightly higher angle.

  • Haha you hit the head right on the nail Hickok, everyone wants to see videos of their own guns. Also, there will NEVER be too many videos about guns haha.

  • @MagicCat3 I believe what you're saying, but my glove size is large, and that's in tight-fitting mechanics' gloves. In other words, my hands aren't huge gorilla hands, but they're not exactly small either. That 29 kicked my ass all over the place. Maybe I should try it with different ammo. I've fired a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm and had no trouble at all with it. I expected the G29 to have more kick than the Colt 'cause of the reduced size/weight, but I wasn't ready for that.

  • @MrChamp51 well the popularity of the round could change in an instant if more manufactures make guns for it, by no means is it dead or close to dying.

  • @onetaothree The 29 seems to like large hands, my hands would be considered XL and because of that the gun fits like a glove. It's shoots just like you see in the video with the hot stuff. I had a guy shoot it which was probably stronger than I was but had much smaller hands, he was going all over the place with the recoil.
