"Panopticon manifest @ mm não é confete/2004
Everywhere you walk theres something spying you. An electronic-mechanic machine eye
and behind it theres another eye a human eye. And all we have to do is smile smile: you
are being taped.
Bentham the panopticon inventor presented his system based in control principles and
productivity of a capitalist society. Whos spying who? Whos chasing who?
The reality shows today are the Bentham system of the 21th century, where people offer
themselves to be watched pursuing Andy Warhols 15 minutes of fame. This is the
"information and control era" combined to a society of spectacle.
The panopticon manifest became stronger when we noticed the people interactivity with our
performance. This interactivity gave the real meaning to our art and beliefs.
In a small LCD monitor images are captured live and mixed in real time and also projected
at the same time to the audience. In this space (which can be any place) there are also sound
interventions giving meaning to the art action.
The frase smile, you are being taped announces to the audience that all of them becomes
part of this work.
The work in progress Vjing-Wireless-Performance uses urban technology such as:
surveillance cameras, LCD monitor, wireless transmitters for image and sound, switcher
and open source software to operate live images and effects.
Is the message of the work comprehensive? The sender-receiver interaction becomes the
medium for the work in progress and its concepts."
