  • Debbie Harry became a fashion icon because of Sprouse, his designs for her during Blondie's early days and peak have influenced rock fashion so much! One of the greatest rock star/designer collaboration ever.

  • Mao - one word: AWESOME

Possible to post the entire Fall 1984 runway show?

  • Not basic at all. I bought some great mens clothes from him. A true genius. I still have most of them.

  • His clothes were pretty basic all american sportswear- occasional splashy graphics but otherwise minimal simple shapes for uptown gals and boys- I mean he did suits for god sake. Nothing avant garde about it. He just put big rock n roll hair and goofy jewelry on it and called it rock n roll. It's amazing that people thought this was so crazy or new or exciting. I threw away all my Keith Haring FREE SOUTH AFRICA posters. Ugh. Could kick myself.

  • @theknownuniverse PS this video is awesome, I'm sorry about my initial visceral response. I used to have Iggy on the cross and a big sample of planet print and gave them to a friend as a gift who (sniff!) DISCARDED them. Can you believe???

  • All I meant was that the fashion industry is a very fair-weather, superficial industry. I'm glad that Steve had real friends that looked after him, because he always seemed to me to be a very vulnerable and weirdly innocent- I mean no offense, i have lovely memories of him and am glad that he was loved by his friends. He was a wonderful talent and a beautiful human.

  • @hrhlynn This isn't a home movie meant to capture his personal life. It's a celebration of his work, style, and influence. It would be disingenuous not to include videos of Debbie, or of the fashion show featuring Terry that exploded him onto the scene, regardless of how close he may or may not have been to either of them when he died. (And no, he did not die alone.)

  • @hrhlynn-Considering he kept his cancer diagnosis a secret and that he died suddenly hours after being admitted to the hospital, I'm not sure who was supposed to be there. Nor did he die alone. He and Debbie Harry were no longer close by that time but she helped him just as much as he helped her and she credits him all the time.

  • I worked for Stephen from '83-'85. He was probably the nicest, most unassuming fashion person I've ever known. I treasure a letter he wrote me after the first time he went bankrupt and I agreed to work for free because I believed in him. I hate that this video features people, like Tama and Debbie and Teri, who were not with him when he died. Steve died alone, with no one; fancy people are not your friends. Steve was an Indiana boy and decisively not fancy.

  • Live forever Stephen Sprouse =)
