A presentation by Douglas Lisle, Ph.D..

There is a hidden force that has turned many smart, savvy people into unwitting saboteurs of their own wellbeing. When trying to make positive changes in diet and lifestyle, well-intentioned determination is, surprisingly, rarely enough. People who are chronically overweight, sick and ailing, or junk-food junkies are not that way because they${q}re lazy, undisciplined, or stuck with bad genes. They are victims of a dilemma that harkens back to our prehistoric past...the Pleasure Trap.

Dr. Doug Lisle, a former lecturer in psychology at Stanford University and currently the psychologist for The McDougall Program explains a recent revolution in motivational psychology that can help people break free from the self-destructive rut. A new understanding of why we do what we do has yielded a dramatic new path toward lasting and positive change. His new book, The Pleasure Trap: Mastering the Hidden Force that Undermines Health and Happiness has been critically acclaimed.

Filming and editing by Dr William Harris M.D. January 15, 2005 at McCoy Pavilion, Ala Moana Beach Park, Honolulu, Hawaii

B12 deficiency is a fallacy. Search "Rethinking & Clarifying the Vitamin B12 Issue By Dr Vivian V. Vetrano"

I think I'll go with the majority opinion of peer reviewed science on this.

Get your B12 tested regularly if you are not taking a B12 supplement.

Please explain why she is incorrect, because I don't know how she could be. I wasn't attacking you, I was responding to some other comments without directly replying.

To many people have tested the theory you don't need to worry about B12 and suffered greatly or even died as a result. Its really important to make sure your B12 levels are adequate. Many older people are short on B12 even with an omnivore diet. Symptoms of B12 deficiency are often attributed to aging. A B12 supplement is very low cost insurance, and even then its a good idea to check your B12 levels periodically.

I am a lifelong vegetarian and I have had symptoms of B12 deficiency for years, but it was not improved with B12 orally. However, I am now sufficiently scared that I am considering a doctors visit and maybe even an injection. I have never had an injection of B12, so I guess I could try. It just seems so weird to need animal products to survive. Thanks for commenting back.

Its possible a larger oral B12 intake would help. I've heard that large dose oral B12 is preferred in Europe over B12 injections. Read through the links I sent you and see a doctor if you are sick, it could be some other problem.

Amirim, Isreal is a vegetarian/vegan city; there are also numerous Himalayan vegan villages who have been vegans & vegetarians for over 6,000 yrs or so, India also has numerous towns/villages which groups of vegans. Veganism isn't some new fad. It has been around for many ages especially within societies that practice Hinduism & Buddhism. Please research on this matter before posting a lie that there are no tribes/societies/cultures who practice veganism. Thank you and peace be.

"no vegan population" You need to do more research on this matter. In India there are well known documented vegan populations & even villages who promotes this dietary lifestyle. There are even documented vegans who are over 100yrs old. In fact most centenarians I know are either vegetarian or vegans. Again, please do a through research study on veganism before posting up such lies.

If you can't eat a more raw food based diet... please... please... I'm saying this as both a medical personal & someone who wants to improve humanity... please take your vitamins. :( I don't want to be coding/billing any more diagnoses that can be easily avoided with a $5 monthly supply of multi-vitamin pills. I'm saying this so that people can save themselves money & time. It's so simple too. Just take a multi-vitamin & watch your medical expenses go down. :) Thank you and peace be.

Eating cooked meat is pointless. When you cook your food it destroys the vitamins & minerals, not just the germs. >_> This is why I went towards a more raw friendly based diet. Anyways in the hospital I'm working in I'm seeing more & more people being diagnosed with vitamin deficiency & it doesn't matter whether people are vegetarians, vegans, omnivores or carnivores. This ought to be everyones concern... something is clearly wrong with the food supply itself, not the type of diet.

I'm currently getting experience hrs for my billing/coding major (third degree so far) & I can say that vitamin deficiency is extremely common among most patients, even those who eat animal protein are deficient on vitamins. The problem I see is that people aren't taking their vitamins. Modern foods are void of nutrients due to too much over-processing, such as cleaning, hormone shots & especially cooking the vitamins out.

You could try sub-lingual B12. I believe there is a sub-lingual spray also.

Thank you, I actually found it after vshvideo started replying, and I ended up on Google Scholar reading different studies. I love to learn, and I now agree that it is real. Thank you for helping :-)

I would suggest reading Jack Norris' article "Response to: Vegan Vitamin B12 Deficiency is a Myth"

It's not a response to Vetrano per se, but it's a response to an article which relies heavily on Vetrano.
