Wow! Never expected to see video of Greyhound in my lifetime, so glad I found it.
He was huge, wasn't he? Towered above the others, coming around the far turn. And I agree with the comment about his seemingly 10-foot-long legs!
What a treat, thanks for posting:-)

Well, it's incredible it exists, so I'm not complaining.

One thing is for sure the Italians import more horsemeat than most of Europe, so for all their love for Varenne they sure don't care for the rest. But then again they thought Mussolini was the best at one time too. Varenne a beautiful horse and a true champion as is Greyhound.

The Americans are convinced when a americans horse make a record is the best horse in history. This is really ridiculous! In the real world everyone knows the best horses ever are italian . Varenne trotting 73 racing, 63 win, 10 place. Galloping Ribot. To be the best, you have to travel the world and win big races, beating the strongest horses in the world. Somebeachsomewhere champion about what? only 20 racing in Usa for make a time record. Watch my video of Varenne and shut up please.

I wonder why there was never a movie made about Greyhound - he was named "Horse Of The Century", yet never received the notoriety that Dan Patch did - what a shame.

The race was run at Good Time Park in Goshen, New York. It was an odd shaped track, sort of kite-shaped. It is gone now. Goshen Historic Track, right behind the Museum, till exists with many horses stabled there and a race meet around July 4th. It has been running since the 1830's. It is a half mile oval. Greyhound time-trialed in 1:59 3/4, maybe the greatest trotting feat ever. You have to visit both the Track and the Museum. It is truly an experience.

it sounds like everyone's under water.... :3

Yes, I believe so but could be wrong. They have sadly closed down many former tracks in the area.
