Dear Wayne, the opera is "Salvator Rosa", by Antônio Carlos Gomes (1836-1896), a brazilian composer who lived in Italia and who was admired by Verdi himself.
It confounds me, and I guess all of his fans, how Woody plays down his, cultivated, intellectual side. Here he uses music by the great Enrico Caruso. It's from an opera called "Salvatore Rosa", which I didn't know, but I do know of the man Rosa, the painter, whose "Self-Portrait" is wicked. I found out an explorer in 1848 named a park after Rosa because of its "rugged and gothic" features. I'm glad I know this because I plan to visit Australia next year LOL.
