At the John Peel stage, post-punk veterans Gang of Four made like it was 1981 with their jerky, confrontational agitpop, barking anti-consumerist lyrics in accusatory Jacobin tones and smashing up a microwave, symbol of the 1980s. It was as if the nation faced an era of savage Thatcherite cuts . . . Oh.
