RICKEY MESSENGER & THE SEMI-PROFESSIONALS - Now is the Time for Jah - reggae dub 12" single

A great find that I got from the old Record & Tape exchange in Camden, London, a long time ago (hence the remains of their label over the original), and it's a tune I have rated ever since. Dating around 1980 and on the obscure KIM label on Jay Dee Enterprise inc from Peckham, the same patch as the Trotters, this is an early steppas style with evocative lyrics and sweet melody and excellent production. Very cool and groovy. Enjoy.

For me it's all about the interplay between the bass line and Rickey Messengers chanting. At times he sounds as almost reciting a nursery rhyme but in a rootsman style.
