Part 1.

Known as one of the more difficult games in the series (hah), Akumajo Dracula X68000 was released in the west later as "Castlevania Chronicles." I'm playing the X68000 version as it runs a tad better than the playstation version. Also, it's harder. Much harder.

These are no damage battles (as in, I take no damage DURING the boss battles, not the stages) against this game's rather hard bosses.
Personally, I found both the She-Wolf and Mirror Creature to be the hardest, altough others will swear to Death being the hardest. I dunno, he falls pretty quickly to the cross sub-weapon. :P

As powerful as the weapon looked during the Death battle, it's effectiveness against the other bosses is lessened by the fact they have invunerability frames, where-as Death only gets his every time he changes attack pattern. Don't quote me on any of this as this is just from personal experience, your milage with the cross may vary depending on which version of the game you play.

I get to some of these bosses with one hit remaining - the stages are really difficult, the clocktower is almost maddening.
If you give this game a go, I recommend you go out and find the Chronicles version of the game first. The X68000 version is too hard for it's own good, XD.

I have a feeling those of you daft enough not to have read my previous "castlevania boss run"'s video description, will have felt pretty gimped by my Dracula X video. It was an april fools joke. I detest the SNES version of Dracula X. This video however is the real mccoy.

Enjoy! As stated above, Dracula should be up soon.

  • This intro and stuff is way better than in the PSX version

  • @PimpUigi Indeed. Sprite artwork is always better than awkwardly bad CGI creations.

  • This looks pretty kool. Are you using an emulator?

  • Yes. The emulator is called XM6.

  • Man I wish I could find this ROM

  • Actually, the mirror creature is an evil replica of Simon.

  • @PimpUigi Go for it. It's a pretty good Castlevania remake. =]

  • @mangaka08 Good to hear, maybe I'll pick this up eventually. It's pretty cool.

  • @PimpUigi Yeah. The PSX has two separate versions on Castlevania Chronicles: The Original Sharp X68000 port and the "Arranged" version. I bought Chronicles simply to play the old X68000 version because I couldn't find any good emulators for it. It has the sprite intro, though as well. The game starts with the CGI intro, you click start and it will go to the menu for you to select which game you want and after choosing original mode, the sprite version intro will start.
