Plastic doesn't really decompose anyway. It just ends up in micro particles in the rivers and ocean to be consumed by aqua life making even the smallest life a victim to pollution. Notable decreasing in sea bird population down to plankton is affecting ALL sea life and its mostly from plastic consumption.

Our capitalist retailers praise plastic shopping bags for speed and ease of transactions, and as consumers we appreciate this timesavings. We need a standardized cleanable & reusable shopping bag format, which will fit on the existing bagging stands in order to maintain the speed of the sales transaction. Banning would only shift production to other "use-and-toss" bags and not solve the problem.
