Peter Allen (1944-1992) was an Australian songwriter and entertainer. His songs were made popular by many recording artists, including Frank Sinatra (You and Me,We Wanted It All), Melissa Manchester, Olive Newton John, Rita Coolidge and one, Arthur's Theme won the Academy Award. His marriage to Liza Minnelli ended in divorce and his most significant relationship was with Gregory Connell which lasted 15 years.
what a talent.

@Tinsby You're so right. His star burned out far too soon. The videos really can't capture how dynamic he was on stage. He was a one of a kind, and sadly, as you wrote, is not remembered by enough people.

@tallpaul521 Wow! You were fortunate to have known him, I bet he was great even when not on stage. I never got to see him perform anywhere but love his music. He was a bright star that burned out waaaay to soon.
He was a very diverse performer with songs ranging from ballads to light hearted offerings. Thanks for sharing and it's too bad we have no one like him to enjoy today. I don't think enough people even know who he was and how popular he was: and that's sad.
Regards!

@Tinsby You're right. I was a friend of Peter's. Sinatra commissioned Peter and Carole to write this song. Peter said it was an homage to Frank and Ava,

@tuberobotto Thank you - there are a few Kenny songs on now- maybe only recently added e.g.' I made it through the rain and New York New York(of course)'. I didn't know of Peter Allen until recently but he is a terrific singer - I was listening to Frank Sinatra initially.

@MrMonroman uncannily they do sound almost alike and like Allen's songs I just love Gerard Kenny's singular album which to me said everything in our time. Unfortunately, I've never found a single posting of Kenny's songs here in youtube, quite an 'unheard of' artist he was though my generation was singing along to his songs in that album. Back to Allen, this song is a real jewel and I still keep Sinatra's version with me wherever I go.

This sounds just like Gerard Kenny to me.

A far better version than Sinatra, since Peter and Carol Bayer Sager wrote this one. It's his version of his own song and has the nuances that Sinatra lacks. A terrific song by a wonderful expressive performer. We miss you Peter :(
Thanks for the posting can't ever have enough of him!
