Energy, it surrounds us, it binds us together (well static cling maybe...) Dr. Carlson kicks off a new, higher-definition season (complete with new opening credits, woo-hoo!) by taking a moment to talk about many different types of energy. This is the first episode in a short series sponsored by NSF and the CCI-Solar initiative, trying to find better ways to harness the sun's energy.

The new theme song by Rad Bromance can be found up on iTunes here:

  • You have no idea how much I appreciate these videos, I;m doing energy in physics right now and this helped alot, especially the paper with burnt holes to show thermal energy.

  • @LFchinatown Glad you got some use out of it... students in class enjoy the demo, too. Many, many pieces of homework get turned in that week with little tiny holes in them...

  • "A source of energy that doesn't run out, well until the sun runs out, but that's gonna be in billions of years so we are not worried about that, At least.. I'm not, Ok? so..."

    Simply hilarious, thanks sciencetheater

  • @santumos :)

  • I don't think that the chemicle energy is in the candle. If it was wouldn't the whole thing burst into flames?

  • @r0b0tj0n3s Well, it is potential energy stored in chemical form. When you are getting the energy out of the candle, it is due to chemical processes. So it's "stored chemical energy", however you want to label that... The candle WILL burst into flames, but only if it's hot enough... since candle flame is fairly small, it doesn't melt the entire candle and cause it to burn all at once. If I introduced more oxygen to the candle, it might actually explode...

  • Thanks! I missed your videos. Great explanation, as always.

Hope you're fine, may the mass * acceleration be with you.

  • I didn't think they still made D batteries.

  • @sciencetheater

Oh ok. Thank you for explaining
