Since it was rebuilt, the neo-Gothic moated castle Moyland in Bedburg-Hau, Germany, homes the Van der Grinten brothers private collection. It was opened as a museum for modern art on the 24th May 1997. In the castle, there are works of art from the 19th and 20th century and the world's largest collection of works by the artist Joseph Beuys. The historic castle ensemble, with its extensive gardens, is a unique combination of the architecture and gardening of the late 19th century with modern and contemporary art. The adjoining buildings serve as galeries for changing art exhibitions, which, together with numerous cultural events, make the museum a cultural centre of international importance.

  • The Moyland Castle Museum in Bedburg-Hau boasts a combination of historical architecture, garden design and special exhibitions of regional and international contemporary art. The permanent exhibition of works by the famous German artist Joseph Beuys is the museum's centrepiece.

  • Architect Ernst Friedrich Zwirner restored the castle of Argenfels on the Rhine, built the castle of Herdringen in the style of the ancient fortress castles on the Rhine for Count von Furstenberg, and also the castle of Moyland near Cleves. His last work was the synagogue at Cologne.

  • Looks Great :)

  • Thanks for the tip. I'm going to Europe next summer, and I was thinking about taking some tours of the old castles. Is there anything else you could recommend? i dont know if you know anything about the Greek islands, but I really want to go there as well.

  • Did they have knights in Germany back in the 3rd century BC?

  • I'm from Duisburg (isn'T far away from Schloss moyland) and in this part of germany aren'T many nice public castles just castles where rich families live. so when you want to see real castles go to the south or east ;-)
