25-Year-old Abhijit Alka Anil had no idea that he would be the target of ridicule because of his name when he went to verify his documents in the local police station for his passport. Now incensed by the same, the student has now shot off a complaint letter to the DCP.
Mulund resident, Abhijit was called by MHADA police station in Mulund on 8th November to verify his documents so that he can apply for a passport to go abroad; accordingly he went in with all the documents. After going through his documents for a while, the concerned police officer smirked and asked him what is Alka in his name? And why wasnt his name normal like others with a surname at its end? Recollecting the weird incident, Abhijit said, I answered him politely first and informed that Alka was my mothers name, and I did not wish to apply my surname. The way he asked me about my mothers name was insulting. He ridiculed me as if having a surname is necessity. I told him it was none of his business and I can call myself Draupadi if I want to.
