did he really have to play the tenor feature on a stand? whats the point in that...unless he just cant play with a carrier on, in which case he shouldnt be playing it at all.

The point of the stand is to be playing on "The Spot". Which, in this video is not visible because it was added the next day. Different things happen on this "Spot" during the show...by design....whether on a stand, on heelies, or with a drum on...
