@tpickthall the concorde has nothing to do with the vulcan, other than it obviously was inspired aby and had engines of the same name but totaly different, the avro atlantic was a proposed passenger version of vulcan that was never made.

indeed one of the test pilots has spoken of the fact that unoficially the vulcan would go supersonic, its not really suprising. look at its shape and power., we are just used to seeing it flying slowly at airshows.
-
Not really a surprise that the plane could go supersonic, it looks like it could without much difficulty.

@noisygit i was born there lol

@qwertdr for the record, the Vulcan ISNT subsonic, any source would say it is, but one of my flight instructors used to fly one of these, which was the first aircraft to be scrapped, and he told me it isnt subsonic, it goes up to mach 1.6 :)
but yea the vulcan is completely different from the concorde.

sorry, that was meant to read 'The triple sweepback wings...' !
-
For the record, another V bomber - the Victor (also British!) - was the first vehicle of that size to go supersonic. pilot left the taps a bit too open in a shallow dive during a test flight - sonic booms reported. The triple sweep for a constant critical Mach number definitely instrumental in that !
-
And where did you get this supersonic crap from?

I know that the Vulcan and Concorde are 2 different aircraft, but can you not think that if you make the wings slightly small as in the wingspan, it would look like a concorde. Reading through these posts about The Vulcan and the Concorde made me think about it. It may just be me, but i'm just asking.
You talk as if you think Concorde is a refined vulcan - it's a completely different aircraft.
For the record, the Vulcan was SUBSONIC and therefore you are wrong.

I joined the RAF in 1992 - what a time I had. Got to see a Vulcan doing circuits and bumps! Good grief i can still see it in my minds eye and smell the aviation fuel it burnt and feel the raw power of the most beautiful aeroplane ever built.
